Handling of fire extinguishers in Laboratory or Office area

• The fire extinguishers should be installed at strategic locations.
• Display plan to show the position of fire extinguishers.
• Conduct mock drill exercises to demonstrate the operation of fire extinguishers
• Periodically check the extinguishers for the expiry & pressure

• The fire extinguishers expiry date should not lapse.
• All the persons should know how to handle the extinguishers.

Purpose:

To ensure correct & prompt usage of fire extinguishers in case of fire (Shop floor / Office area).

• Check if the pressure gauge needle is in the green zone.
• Pull out safety seal.
• Grasp can by black lever, depress downwards and spray.

• Check the inbuilt pressure gauge periodically.
• The green zone is an indicator of the state of readiness of the extinguisher. If pressure drops, the needle will shift to the red zone.
• Call your supplier / local office at regular intervals.
• Contents under pressure.
• Do not puncture or incinerate even when empty.
• Store away from direct heat.
• Do not tamper with the can.
• Break the seal only in case of fire.
